Members of emergency medical services are being honored this week in Las Vegas because it is National EMS Week.
Here in the Las Vegas valley, first responders with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue respond to thousands of calls each year and a large chunk of them are emergency medical calls.
This year's theme of EMS Week is "Beyond the Call" because paramedics and emergency medical technicians around the valley are trained to respond to much more than small crashes or fires.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue says there are a total of 53 paramedic emergency response units within the city.
