Members of a Midbar Kodesh Temple spent Sunday helping out the community.

They collected more than 2,000 books to be donated to children and families in need.  The books were collected for Spread the Word Nevada while gift items were gathered for the Clark County School District's Project Hope, which helps homeless students and their families in the valley.

"It helps us create an educational moment, a teaching moment," said Rabbi Bradley Tecktiel. "So our kids learn that there are less fortunate than them and it's our obligation to help out those in our community."

Members of the synagogue also helped out at the Jewish Family Services Agency of Las Vegas and Catholic Charities' soup kitchen.

School children are preparing Hanukkah cards and crafts to send to Israeli soldiers and patients at a rehabilitation village in Israel, which assists those with disabilities.
