Vegas celebrates new 'Star Wars' movie

Everyone is excited about the premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on Dec. 18, including Santa Claus.

On Dec. 15, Santa will wear his best "Star Wars" apparel for one night only at Downtown Summerlin. Visitors will have the opportunity to take a photo with Star Wars Santa on a specially decorated set.

Santa will be joined by other costumed characters, including Princess Leia. In addition, Star Wars-themed music will be played at the skating rink and skaters and others are encouraged to come in costume.

Santa will be available for photos from 6 to 10 p.m.

The Rx Boiler Room at Mandalay Bay is offering a variety of appetizing bites and cocktails every day from 5 to 7 p.m. in celebration of the new movie.

They include Princess Leia's Buns (2 meatball sliders, arugula pesto, and provolone),  Jabba Hutt Dogs (seafood hot doggies, chipotle aioli, cabbage slaw, potato chips), and more. Along with the quick bites guests can refresh themselves after all the holiday shopping by indulging in the inspired cocktails such as Yo-duh (Woody Creek vodka, green chartreuse, absinthe, Lemon Juice, thyme syrup), Vader-Ade (Johnny Walker Black, orangerie aperitif, Solerno Blood Range liquor, Dubonnet, lime juice),  and Qui-Gon ‘Gin’ (ginger beer, cardomon bitters, lime juice, Azzurre Gin, Suze).

Brenden Theatres at The Palms hotel-casino is bringing in 20 to 30 "Star Wars" characters from Twin Suns (Star Wars fan club) in full costume to pose for photographs with fans from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17. The action will take place in the lobby. Brendan Theatres will be showing the movie in standard, IMAX 3-D and 3-D.

The Golden Tiki on Spring Mountain Road is promising free booze on Dec. 17 to anyone dressed as their favorite Star Wars character. In addition, there will be a special "galactic" performance by The Sharps at 9 p.m. In addition, anyone who brings their ticket stub to the movie to the bar on Dec. 19 will receive a free Chrismtas cookie and hot cocoa.

Luke's Lobster, which recently opened at the Fashion Show mall, will be giving away free lobster rolls to the first 25 people named Luke or Lucas on Dec. 18 to celebrate the return of Luke's namesake kin to the silver screen. The giveaway will take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. or as long as supplies last.
