Frozen custard is believed to have originated on Coney Island in New York state in 1919. A frozen custard stand at the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago introduced it to a much bigger audience. The churning process used to make frozen custard minimizes ice crystals and excess air and results in a smoother texture than ice cream. Also, custard is richer than ice cream as the result of the addition of eggs to the mixture.

National Frozen Custard Day is Aug. 8 and the following is a list of some of the best frozen custard in the Las Vegas valley:

Rita's Italian Ice
Rita's doesn't just serve Italian ice, they also have frozen custard. Their old-fashioned frozen custard is sure to make your mouth happy. They offer sprinkles, hot fudge and caramel toppings. Rita's sundaes are also made with the rich, premium custard.
