Multiple groups are planning a city-wide celebration in the valley to welcome the year of the rat.
One of the many Vegas-area events include the 9th annual Chinese New Year in the Desert celebration.
A portion of the party took place Saturday morning in downtown Las Vegas. The celebration overall has been named one of the eight great events to celebrate the new year in the US and Canada by Forbes magazine.
Saturday morning's festivities included an opening ceremony at City Hall, a parade down Main Street, along with a party featuring traditional Chinese music and dancing in the Arts District.
