LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Hair salons are back open across the Las Vegas valley but the recovery hasn't been the quickest for a number of businesses.
When you walk in, you may not notice it, thanks to the cheerful music, but The Salon Beauty New Imagen manager Edilberto Vargas says he can’t help to feel overwhelmed.
“Right now, I’m very stressed. It wasn't like this before the closure - not many customers," Vargas said.
Many of Vargas' customers remain without a job and that is a fear he says he shares. Not only because he could be without a job, but also because of the rent that is due.
Vargas shared an invoice that showed a balance of around $14,000 that was still due.
“Even if there’s not a lot of money, you got to pay for the rent. You got to pay for the bills, you need money for everything," Vargas said.
The current pandemic has changed his business. Hair and makeup, manicures and pedicures are still offered, but work stations are spread out for social distancing. Also, face masks and hand sanitizers are provided to customers.
Those changes have been noticed by his customers.
“We are in an environment where everybody is wearing a face mask. So, that makes it feel like you’re in a safer place," said first-time customer Ana Silva.
For long-time customers, who call Vargas “Beto" coming back is also knowing that their hair is in good hands.
“If there is no Beto, I’m not going anywhere. Beauty, it motivates yourself. I feel good about doing my hair, finally," said Aida Adames.
Appointments are preferred and The Salon Beauty New Imagen is located at 5853 W. Tropicana Ave with daily hours of 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
