Commission Vice Chairman Lawrence Weekly will offer several services including coronavirus testing, document shredding, and medicine disposal from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 1 in the parking lots at the County Government Center at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas.

During the event, Vice Chairman Weekly will collaborate with SilverSummit Healthplan to also give away 2,000 backpacks and school supplies, and residents will be able to drop off old computers and other electronics to be recycled.

Everything at the event will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis, and all attendees must arrive in a vehicle and remain in their vehicle while accessing the services. (A school-aged child must be present in the vehicle to receive a backpack and school supplies.)

“I am excited we found a way to continue providing some of our more popular services in a safe and socially distant way,” Vice Chairman Weekly said. “Those interested in something in particular, like picking up school supplies or getting a coronavirus test, should try to get to the event early as supplies are limited.”

The event is being supported by the Blind Center of Nevada, SilverSummit Healthplan, Battle Born Progress, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
