UPDATE FEB. 19: The coroner has identified the man who died near the High Roller observation wheel as 23-year-old Stefan Quinton Jones-Green from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The official cause of death has not been determined.

Las Vegas police said a person has died after falling down stairs near the High Roller observation wheel Friday evening.

A 23-year-old man fell about 50 feet down a flight of stairs just before 7 p.m., according to police.

He was then transported to the University Medical Center but later pronounced deceased.

The area around the incident was expected to remain closed while detectives investigated.

According to authorities, the incident did appear to be an unfortunate accident as the 23-year-old was running around the loading zone and entered an unauthorized area before falling.

The High Roller remained open, but the zip line was closed, according to police.
