ORIGINAL STORY
North Las Vegas police report a teenager has died in an accidental shooting overnight Saturday.

Officers responded to the 3300 block of Park Town Street, near Revere Street and Cheyenne Avenue, at about 1:30 a.m. regarding a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Arriving officers located a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to the University Medical Center but later passed away.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the boy accidentally shot himself. Authorities say it was not immediately known how the teen got possession of the gun.

“This is a horrible event," said Alexander Cuevas, public information officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department. "We are deeply saddened, and the NLVPD gives its deepest condolences to the family of this child.”

The Clark County Coroner's office will identify the person killed after family has been notified.
