ORIGINAL STORY

Sportswriter David Malinsky was found dead on Mount Charleston, according to his family.

Details about his death are not available at this time.

Known as an expert on sports betting and an avid hiker, Malinsky went out for a day hike on the north loop of Mount Charleston on April 14. When he didn't return home, Search and Rescue crews began to look for him along with citizen volunteers.

Family member Hope Ellis thanked the Las Vegas hiking and sports communities for their support during the search for Malinsky in a public Facebook post.

"As we all know, Dave had a particular fondness for Bristlecone Pine Trees and referred to them as his “Old Friends in High Places.” We find comfort in knowing he passed doing what he loved, and is now resting peacefully among his friends," Ellis wrote.
