Scooter rider IDed in northwest Las Vegas crash

A 27-year-old scooter rider died early Saturday morning in a crash with an SUV in the northwest part of Las Vegas.

The Clark County coroner identified the man Saturday afternoon as Spencer Heywood Hanshew of Las Vegas. He died of blunt force trauma from the crash.

Around 12:46 a.m., the collision occurred on North Tenaya Way, approaching Centennial Parkway. When the Tao Tao motor scooter began to cross Tenaya Way and into the path of the Jeep Cherokee. The front of the Jeep hit the rear of the scooter.

The male scooter rider was ejected to the roadway. The Jeep driver, 31-year-old William Clemmer, brought the vehicle to a stop and called 911.

Emergency responders transported the scooter rider to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced dead.

This is the 80th traffic-related fatality this year in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction.
