Sandoval appoints new member of Nevada Supreme Court

Posted

A Reno judge who co-founded a specialty court program for young adults with drug addiction will fill a vacancy on the Nevada Supreme Court.

Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Thursday that Lidia Stiglitch will take the seat of Justice Nancy Saitta, who retired from the court in August before her six-year term was up. Stiglitch takes over on Jan. 2.

Sandoval cited the high marks that lawyers have given Stiglitch on a performance survey. He also pointed to her work creating the Youth Offender Drug Court, which directs young people to drug treatment and job skills training instead of prison when they run in with the law.

The governor picked Stiglitch after interviewing three finalists who were recommended by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection.
