The Bullhead City Council voted Tuesday evening to discontinue the annual River Regatta, according to the Bullhead City Bee's Facebook page.
The city council had a special meeting regarding the River Regatta's future. The vote to discontinue was 4 to 3.
The last River Regatta on Aug. 13 attracted an estimated 30,000 people. Trash later had to be cleaned up along the event's route on the Colorado River between Laughlin and Bullhead City.
According to the Mohave Valley Daily News, tribal authorities asked the council to end the regatta, citing bodily waste that ends up in the river's water after drunken revelers attend the event.
Other people asked that alcohol be banned from the regatta, the Mohave Daily News reported.
Supporters of the event say it brought in money to the city and businesses.
