UPDATE: A suspect has been taken into custody. Action News will post updates as they are received.
Sherrif Lombardo said in a press conference that the suspect was taken into custody in Southern Highlands without incident.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A Las Vegas police officer was shot on Thursday morning in the 9000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South between West Serene Avenue and West Pebble Road.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened shortly before noon at Emerald Suites. The officer was responding to a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, the suspect opened fire.
The officer was transported to University Medical Center. According to Sheriff Joe Lombardo, the officer was shot just beneath the armpit area and is expected to recover.

The sheriff also said that the officer returned fire. It is not known though if the suspect was hit.
At this time, no one has been arrested. The police department is actively searching for the suspect. He has been described as a light-skinned black male. Motorists and others are advised to avoid the area.

Action News is near the scene of the shooting and at the hospital. KTNV Chopper 13 is also flying above the scene of the shooting.
