LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — There will not be a large fireworks show on the Las Vegas Strip this year.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority sent the following to local media on Thursday afternoon:

From Steve Hill, President/CEO of the LVCVA:

Las Vegas has always been a bucket list New Year’s Eve destination, and we are going to make sure that remains the case – celebrating putting 2020 in the rear-view mirror in an “Only Vegas” way.

But as we have said throughout the year, the safety and security of our guests and employees is our top priority, and with that in mind, we will not have a fireworks show on December 31st. Stay tuned, as we have some special things planned to welcome 2021 with the hope and promise it brings.

For more than a dozen years, fireworks have been shot from the rooftops of multiple resort properties on the Las Vegas Strip.

More than 300K people have visited Las Vegas for New Year's Eve every year for the last few years to see the fireworks and enjoy the beginning of the new year in the Las Vegas valley.

The Plaza hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas says it will continue to plan for their fireworks New Year's Eve celebration.

“Hosting an amazing fireworks show that lights up the downtown sky on New Year’s Eve is a tradition for the Plaza,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “We can’t wait to ring in the new year in classic Vegas style.
