More than two dozen residents attended a neighborhood meeting on crime at the Durango Hills YMCA Thursday night. The event was organized in response to a number of burglaries and robberies in the nearby area, said Assemblywoman Victoria Seaman.
"There was a break-in in the middle of the day in the Desert Shores area and the gentlemen was murdered," said Assemblywoman Seaman.
The homicide happened in July of 2015. The body of a man was discovered inside a house on Panama Beach Drive, near West Cheyenne Avenue and North Rampart Boulevard, said detectives.
Assemblywoman Seaman said the fear in the community began to increase after the homicide.
Residents told Action News they were at the meeting for different reasons.
Some had recently been a victim of crime; while others just wanted extra safety tips.
Action News has attached cell videos from inside the meeting to this story.
