According to the National Retail Federation, Valentine's Day spending is expected to be down by nearly $5 billion compared to last year.

A Lending Tree Survey found nearly 40% of Americans plan to skip celebrating Valentine's Day altogether this year to save money.

Women who say they do plan to give gifts said they'll spend about $94.
