LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — California has become the first state to ban new fur sales.

A bill signed by Gov. Newsom on Friday makes it illegal to sell, donate or create new fur products in the state.

Used fur, taxidermy along with leather, cowhide and shearling are exempt from the law.

Violators will face civil penalties.
