The Nintendo Switch is officially for sale.

Nintendo's latest gaming innovation allows users to choose between playing on a portable device or connected to a home system.

The official launch for the gaming system was Friday as customers waited in lines for midnight sales in several major cities throughout the nation.

Here are four things to know about the Nintendo Switch.

1: What is the Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch is a first-of-a-kind gaming system that allows gamers to play at home connected to a TV or used as a tablet-like device.

The handheld display has a 6.2-inch screen with a 32-GB capacity. The system uses a Joy-Con controller that can be attached to the handheld device.

The console comes with a high-speed HDMI cable.

2: Where can I get one?

For those who did not preorder, getting a Nintendo Switch today could be tricky, according to The Verge

Amazon is sold out, but there are notice alerts available to find out when Amazon gets restocked. Target, Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart all had Switches available at 12:01 a.m. local time Friday, but The Verge advises to call ahead before going to the outlet of your choice.

3: How much does it cost?

The Nintendo Switch is listed at $299.99 on the company website. The price does not include a game.

4: What games are available?

Nintendo has primarily touted "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" — the latest in the iconic series.

Nintendo also offers "1-2 Switch" — a new style of playing where competitors face and look at each other as opposed to a screen. The game offers wild-west duels, dance-off or table tennis competitions along with other modes.

Puzzle game "Snipperclips" also is available as of Friday, while "Mario Kart Deluxe 8" will be available on April 28.
