Bystander video shows Chicago police shooting man during attempted arrest, officers placed on leave

Two Chicago police officers have been placed on administrative leave after a shooting on a subway platform that left one person injured.

According to The Washington Post, the incident happened Friday afternoon. Bystander video taken from the incident shows two police officers wrestling with a man.

Police yell at the man to stop resisting, while the man yells back that he "didn't do nothing" to the officers. The video also shows that officers attempted to use stun guns to subdue him.

After struggling with the man for several minutes, the man gets to his feet.

"Shoot him!" one of the officers yelled.

According to the bystander video, officers fired two shots at the man. He was struck in the abdomen and the buttocks. He underwent surgery over the weekend, and his attorney says he will likely need more surgery in the coming days and weeks.

USA Today and The Washington Post have identified the man in the video as 33-year-old Ariel Roman.

CNN reports that the officers stopped the man because he was moving between two subway cars, city ordinance violation. On Sunday, Chicago Police announced they would no longer pursue resisting arrest and narcotics charges against him, The Washington Post
reports.

In a Friday afternoon tweet, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) called the video "extremely disturbing" and said the officers' actions were "deeply concerning."

Chicago Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement to The Washington Post that the department that "while we will not rush to judgment, the level of concern over the tactics used in this incident is significant."
