Devonta Lewis Sr., 22, is facing first degree murder for the death of a 4-month-old.

Action News spoke with the mother of the 4-month-old Friday evening. The young woman, who did not want her name revealed, remained strong.

She said she was not forming any conclusions until police completed their investigation. The mother is not sure why her happy baby boy died.

Police said the young mom was at work at the time.

The incident happened at the family's apartment on the 5100 block of East Sahara Avenue last month.

Detectives interviewed the father after the baby's death.  According to the arrest report, on that night Lewis was home with his baby. Police believe he was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

Lewis fed his baby, put him to sleep and later discovered he was limp, said police.

He called 911, continued to do CPR but the baby died, according to police.

Police said Lewis told them the baby was fussy when his mother was at work.

Lewis, the primary caretaker, admitted to police he was frustrated.

Doctors found bruises all over the baby, along with skull and rib fractures, according to the arrest report. They believe the injuries were abusive, not the result of an accident.

However a Child Protective Services' investigator believes the baby's injuries were caused by medical personnel performing CPR, said police.

GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.
