A Las Vegas man received injuries to his right calf after accidentally shooting himself in Arizona over the weekend.

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accidental shooting Saturday evening on Interstate 40 near Milepost 42.

A Department of Public Safety Trooper had conducted a traffic stop on a 33-year-old Travis Neil Cook.  During the investigation, it was learned that the driver was shot in his right calf.  No other occupants were in the vehicle.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office reported the driver accidentally shot himself. Initially Cook had denied shooting himself but deputies said evidence at the scene shows otherwise. Deputies located a 357 magnum revolver next to Cook’s seat with a spent casing.

Medical River responded and transported Cook to Kingman Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries where he was treated and later released.
