MGM Resorts considering new behind-the-bar technology

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — MGM Resorts is looking into new technology that could enhance guest experience and speed of service.

MGM Resorts International said the company is eyeing back of house automated beverage systems.

These stations would be placed out of the eyesight or reach of guests, and automatically measure beverages at the proper amount with a simple touch of a button.

MGM Resorts says this would not impact any front of house or customer-facing bars.

New technology has been a topic of discussion at MGM Resorts.

Back in 2018, they entered a contract with the Culinary Union, which addressed implementing the additional tech.

“That would be okay, I wouldn’t have a problem with that,” said local bartender Greg Abate.

MGM Resorts says their agreement with the union outlines specific protections when it comes to new technology and how it would impact workers.

If implemented, employees would have opportunities for other roles within the company, which include retraining and other employee support, according to the company.

The Culinary Union said it will be monitoring the situation.
