LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that they were investigating an early morning homicide in downtown Las Vegas on Sunday.

Lieutenant Jason Johansson said that it occurred on Fremont Street and Casino Center Boulevard.

LVMPD sent a press release regarding this homicide Sunday afternoon. Police said that officers were working foot patrol in the Fremont Experience canopy and heard gunfire in the area.

Officers responded and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to UMC Trauma where one was pronounced deceased, the second was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicates that a fight broke out between several people in the Fremont Experience. During the fight, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and began firing. The victim who died was involved in the original altercation, the second victim was an innocent bystander according to police.

The identification of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
