A defense lawyer says a 22-year-old Henderson man can't post $1 million bail to be freed from jail pending a June 13 preliminary hearing on a murder charge in the shooting death of his father.

Attorney Mace Yampolsky said Wednesday he'll keep seeking Daron Clanton's release, even though Henderson Justice of the Peace David Gibson refused to reduce Clanton's bail in the Jan. 11 slaying of 54-year-old Kevin Clanton.

Yampolsky says his client has no criminal history, and a psychological examination might help convince the judge that Daron Clanton isn't a danger to others and could be released.

Police say Clanton told them he retrieved a gun and shot his father after his father pushed and punched him several times during an argument about Daron Clanton no longer attending college.
