A rat problem drove a Summerlin family from their home, and now they say the apartment complex won't pay for the property the rodents destroyed.

Queen Patrick lived in the Falling Water apartment complex near Town Center Drive and Summerlin Parkway for just three months last year. She and her family were let out of their lease because of a rat infestation.

When they went to pack up their storage shed, they found rat nests and droppings covering about $1,200 worth of possessions, including luggage, furniture and Patrick's son's clothes.

"It was bad because you don't want to touch something like that," Patrick said. "You don't know if something's going to jump out at you."

Patrick now wants Falling Water to reimburse her for the things in the shed she had to leave behind.

13 Action News went into the leasing office to find out more, and it didn't take long for one of the employees to ask us to leave. He repeatedly told us the complex didn't have a comment on Patrick's situation.

Patrick has sent three emails to the property supervisor, one being as recent as last week, and she hasn't heard back. She says she's thinking about bringing a lawsuit against the apartment complex.
