Inmate stabbed to death at High Desert prison

The Nevada Department of Corrections reports that an inmate was stabbed to death during an altercation with two other inmates at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs.

The Inspector General’s Office is investigating the incident which occurred Monday at approximately 1:45 in the afternoon.
 
The inmate, Andrew Thurgood, a 26-year-old in for attempted possession of a stolen vehicle, was received from Clark County on Sept. 24.
 
Thurgood was located in the dayroom when correctional officers and medical staff arrived on scene.
 
Staff began life saving measures and the inmate was moved to the infirmary where he succumbed to his injuries.
 
An autopsy has been scheduled and next of kin have been notified.
 
Investigators have identified two suspects. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
