Authorities identify suspect, Henderson detective involved in shooting

UPDATE APRIL 11: Henderson police identified the detective involved in the shooting as Anthony Sanchez-Martinez. He has been a member of the HPD since February 2015 and assigned to the Investigative Services Division, Narcotics Unit.

The incident also remains an open investigation.

Authorities are investigating a shooting that involved police Tuesday night in a northeast Las Vegas neighborhood.

Officers were serving a search warrant in the 6500 block of Curacao Drive, near Carey Avenue and Mt. Hood Street, for the Southern Nevada Heroin Task Force at about 8 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicating that a man armed with a gun approached a home occupied by the Henderson SWAT Team.

The team was clearing the scene when the man made contact with detectives. The suspect then ignored verbal commands to drop his weapon and a detective fired shots towards him.

According to Henderson police, the suspect retreated and was quickly taken into custody within the neighborhood.

Authorities later identified the man as Daniel Gana with no injuries reported in the incident.

This was the second shooting that involved Henderson authorities so far this year, and the detective has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
