Hearing scheduled to discuss redrawing of districts before election

Advocates for creating a non-partisan commission to redraw Nevada voting districts instead of the Legislature are offering to amend a proposed statewide ballot initiative to appease a North Las Vegas pastor who has sued to block it.

The president of the Nevada League of Women Voters says the Fair Maps Nevada political action committee wants to get past the legal challenge and start getting its anti-gerrymandering argument out to Nevada's voters.

A hearing is scheduled Monday in state court in Carson City on a request for an injunction to prevent signature-gathering. The lawsuit says the proposed initiative is fatally flawed.
