LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The 75th anniversary of D-Day is June 6, 2019, and to commemorate the historic day, a group of students from Foothill High School in Henderson is going to Normandy.

The 172 students are from the marching band, color guard, choir, two concert bands, and a jazz ensemble. Eighty chaperones will also accompany the group as they visit France and England performing at multiple locations along the way.

For many of the students, it will be their first time out of the country and even on a plane, so this trip is a big deal.

“Honestly, it still hasn’t hit me that we’re going, like I can’t even imagine getting on the airplane right now,” said Amaya Riddle, who just graduated from high school but is spending the start of her summer preparing for this trip.

Riddle also said this opportunity will be a chance to bring a book lesson to life.

“It’s kind of something you brush over in history class, and I think it’s hard to connect with because it happened overseas,” said Riddle.

And thanks to the trip, it will no longer be just a lesson in a history book.
