A Las Vegas family is mourning the loss of their 8-year-old who was killed in a fatal car crash Friday.

“It's just absolutely heartbreaking,” says Savanna Sparks, family friend.

According to family friends, 8-year-old Levi was inside a vehicle with his mother and father, when a sports car sped through a red light at Eastern and Harmon and T-boned their vehicle.

Police believe the driver was under the influence. Levi was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“The number one thing was the love he had for his mom, he was such a mamas boy and he brought so much love and light to his family,” says Sparks.

Sparks watched Levi grow up, and has been a friend of his mom for years.

Her pain, digging deeper after learning that the driver at fault, 25-year-old Aylin Alvarez Perez, was under the influence at the time of the crash.

“When you destroy someone else's family like that, you can't take that back, the damage is done.

Now, wanting to do something to help the family  Sparks created a Facebook fundraiser. In less than a day, it raised over $7,000.

“It's the full Vegas family coming together, and realizing that they are part of our community and we need to support them."

Sparks says this crash should have never happened, and hopes people will think twice before drinking and driving.

“Uber, Lyft, it's not that much to just get home," says Sparks. "It's one drink you could've spared to get yourself home and protect other people."
