UPDATE JULY 6: Nevada Highway Patrol says its preliminary investigation revealed that on June 30 at about 11 p.m., a gray Jeep Patriot was traveling northbound on the Interstate 15 just north of St. Rose Pkwy.

For reasons unknown, the Jeep left the marked travel lane and made a head-on impact with an attenuator, a safety device intended to reduce the damage to vehicles and motorists when a vehicle leaves the roadway, that was on the left shoulder.

The driver/sole occupant of the Jeep Patriot, identified as 40-year-old Kelly Cover from Las Vegas, was transported to the University Medical Trauma Center where she died of injuries.

Two vehicles in the other travel lanes were hit by debris from the Jeep, according to NHP.

This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol – Southern Command’s 38th fatal crash resulting in 46 fatalities for 2021.

ORIGINAL STORY: All travel lanes on Interstate 15 northbound at Starr Avenue were closed while authorities investigated a deadly crash late Wednesday night.

Traffic was being diverted off the highway at St. Rose Parkway starting at 10 p.m. after a Jeep was traveling recklessly and crashed into the center median.

The female driver died on the way to the hospital but no other injuries were reported in the collision, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
