Details are limited, but authorities have confirmed the dog was found in a crate next to a dumpster near the 100 block of North 27th Street.

Lieutenant Monique Bulmer with LVMPD told media that while the investigation is still in the early stages, authorities do not believe the dog died in this location.

"We currently do not know the cause of death, however, a necropsy will be performed on the dog. So, at this time, we are treating it as a potential animal cruelty case," Lt. Bulmer said. "It's possible that the dog was killed and then dumped here, or it could actually be a non-criminal case in which someone just inappropriately discarded an animal."
