UPDATE: Officers say the attempted carjacking occurred at the Best Buy at 3820 Maryland Parkway and then the victim drove to Twain Avenue.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A UNLV student was the victim of an attempted carjacking near the school's campus.
The incident occurred in a parking lot on Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue. The student was shot at during the attempted carjacking but there's no confirmation that they were hit by a bullet. Police say that he was pistol whipped by the carjacker.
The student left the scene and returned to campus, where he sought medical attention at the UNLV Recreation and Wellness Center. UNLV staff called 9-1-1 around noon and the student has been transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
