UPDATE JAN. 16: The Clark County coroner has identified the teen killed as 17-year-old Clemente Medina Jr. of North Las Vegas. He died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A 17-year-old male was shot Saturday night in the area of Civic Center Drive and Evans Avenue.

North Las Vegas Police were dispatched at about 10:30 p.m. to a crash. When they arrived, they located a white pickup in the center median with extensive front-end damage.

The preliminary investigation indicates the white pickup truck was stopped at the red light on Civic Center Drive at Evans Avenue facing southbound. A dark-colored sedan pulled up and stopped next to it at the light. A short dialogue occurred just before gunshots were exchanged.

The white pickup truck traveled southbound on Civic Center Drive before losing control and striking a tree in the center median. The dark-colored sedan was last seen fleeing the area southbound on Civic Center Drive.

The teenager was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

No arrests have been made at this time. The Clark County coroner will identify the deceased after relatives have been notified,
