UPDATE: Grand jury indict Anthony Peniston for deadly crash in November

UPDATE FEB. 24, 2020: A grand jury has indicted Anthony Jefferson Peniston for the deadly crash on Nov. 16, 2019.

According to the grand jury indictment, Peniston has a concentration of alcohol of .08 or more in his blood at the time of the crash.

He was indicted for driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving.

UPDATE DEC. 10: Court records show no charges have been filed against Anthony Peniston, accused by police of driving under the influence in a deadly crash on Nov. 16. Peniston has been released from jail. 13 Action News has placed several calls to the District Attorney's office but have not heard back yet. Check back for updates.

ORIGINAL STORY
NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A man has died from his injuries following a crash that occurred early this morning in North Las Vegas.

On Nov. 16 around 4:30 a.m., police responded to a serious crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Aliante Parkway and Broadwing Drive.

Medical help arrived and a 72-year-old male driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead.

Police say the preliminary investigation indicates a 2007 Mercedes sedan, driven by 46-year-old Anthony Peniston, was traveling northbound on Aliante Parkway approaching Broadwing Drive.

At the same time, a Ford Escape was traveling westbound on Broadwing Drive completing a southbound turn onto Aliante Parkway when the Mercedes failed to stop at the marked stop sign, impacting the Ford.

Police investigators believe speed and impairment played a role in the cause of this collision.

Peniston was subsequently booked on the charge of felony reckless driving with death or substantial bodily harm and driving under the influence with death at the Las Vegas City Jail.

The victim of the crash has not yet been identified.

This is the 9th fatal crash in North Las Vegas for 2019.
