UPDATE DEC. 26: The woman who was killed in the crash on Christmas Eve has been identified as 41-year-old Maribel Aleman of Las Vegas. The woman died of blunt force trauma. A 13-year-old boy was also badly injured in the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY

41-year-old Rigoberto Chavez-Solorzano has been arrested for a crash on Christmas Eve that killed a 41-year-old woman and critically injured a 13-year-old boy.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. near East Lake Mead Boulevard and Palmer Street near Pecos Road.

Police say that the victims were in a vehicle traveling west on Lake Mead Boulevard and attempting to turn into a business when Chavez-Solorzano hit the passenger side of the other vehicle.

The 41-year-old woman was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. In addition to the boy being transported to the hospital, both drivers were also transported with minor injuries.

Investigators believe speed led to the crash.

Chavez-Solorzano was subsequently booked on three counts of felony reckless driving with death or substantial bodily harm at the Las Vegas City Jail.

The coroner's office will release the name of the woman after relatives have been notified.
