LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A man is in "extremely critical" condition after being shot while in the driver's seat of a rental vehicle Tuesday morning, according to police in Las Vegas.

The shooting happened just before 11:30 a.m. on 23rd Street between Owens and Searles avenues.

The man was transported to UMC Trauma and the department's homicide unit is taking over.

Police say the man was by himself at the time of the shooting and there are no witnesses at this time.

Officers are unsure what led up to the shooting or if the shooter and the man knew each other.

The department says the investigation is in the very early stages and ask anyone with information to come forward.
