UPDATE: Coroner identifies victim of fatal hit-and-run

UPDATE FEB. 23: The Clark County Coroner has identified the decedent as 63-year-old Ronald Smith. Smith's cause of death was blunt force injuries to his torso and lower extremities. The incident was ruled an accident.

ORIGINAL STORY
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A male pedestrian was struck around 9:24 p.m. Feb. 20 in a hit-and-run crash near Twain Avenue and Palos Verdes Street, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police say the evidence at the scene and a witness statement indicated that a man was crossing southbound across Twain Avenue, near a marked crosswalk, but against the signal.

According to a witness, the man was hit by a dark-colored SUV traveling eastbound on Twain Avenue.

After the collision, the SUV left the scene going eastbound on Twain Avenue, according to LVMPD.

The man was transported to Sunrise Trauma by ambulance. Despite medical intervention, he died due to his injuries and was pronounced dead by Trauma staff.

The man's death marked the 15th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD's jurisdiction for the year 2021.

The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
