Las Vegas man sentenced for shooting family dog during argument

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A 42-year-old man has been sentenced for killing the family dog during a domestic dispute in August of 2020 at a home near the 215 and West Cheyenne Avenue.

Russell Kelly’s wife told police that her husband shot their dog during an argument about money and a pyramid scheme.

The dog reportedly bit or nipped him earlier in the evening but was lying in her dog bed at the time she was shot.

Kelly was able to negotiate a plea deal and was sentenced to 2 years of probation on a single charge of felony cruelty to animals. He will not be allowed to own any guns or have any pets during that time.
