Everyone knows granite countertops aren't cheap. So imagine how you'd feel if your granite started cracking. It happened to one local man, not long after installation. That's when he reached out to Contact 13's Call For Action volunteers for help.
"It was really frustrating. Once you have gone back and forth, back and forth," says William Jones.
He put countless calls into the store where he bought his new granite countertops. They were installed last fall for about $9,000. But he spotted major problems just a couple months later.
"New cracks, every other day," says William.
He spoke with countless people about the issue: the retailer, the supplier, customer service reps, and finally a manager.
"He said we can fix it. We can come out and pour wax in the cracks," says William.
But he wasn't going to settle. He wanted all new granite.
"The store manager was very adamant about not redoing it... I wasn't getting anywhere," says William.
That's when William reached out to Contact 13's Call For Action for help.
"I expected them to give me customer satisfaction, and I did not receive that," says William.
Our volunteers made some calls, and a couple weeks later, William had all new granite countertops. He says no one was listening, until Action News got involved.
"I think when Channel 13 called, that really caused them to turn the hearing aid up a little bit," says William.
So here's the Contact 13 bottom line: when you're not getting the help you need from any business, don't back down. You have rights. Don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor, and talk to as many people as it takes.
