School is out for the summer but some flashing school zone lights are still on, leaving drivers wondering what to do.

On Thursday, the school zone lights were flashing all day outside Cashman Middle School near Desert Inn and Decatur.

13 Action News watched hundreds of cars slow down to 15 miles per hour like the sign and lights asked them to do.

The thing is, school ended already and Cashman Middle School is not an all-year school. Clark County School District told 13 Action News, the lights should not have been on Thursday, but sometimes they malfunction.

It's a lot of work to make sure all the school zone lights in the district are on the correct timers so sometimes things get mixed up. This leads to to two popular questions. Should you still obey the lights even if you are certain school is not in session? And can police officers still ticket you if you disobey the lights.

The answer to both is yes.

However, police say if you take your ticket to court, you will probably get it dismissed if you explain school wasn't in session.
