The American Red Cross says there is a severe mid-summer blood shortage right now and are offering $5 Amazon gift cards to anyone who donates blood or platelets between today and Aug. 30.
While all blood types are need, type O is especially important because it is the most-transfused blood type.
You can donate whole blood every 56 days and platelet donors can give every 7 days up to 24 times per year.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health.
There will be a number of blood drives across the valley. Donors can find upcoming drives and make an appointment at redcross.org.
