LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Making donations to a nonprofit organization this holiday season just got easier.

The Salvation Army's red kettles now take mobile pay, allowing people to use their smartphones to donate using Apple Pay or Google Pay.

The organization used to take cash or coins only.

Management is hoping the change will help increase donations.

"Maybe they don't have a dollar or two, but maybe they're willing to donate a few dollars by scanning the emblem here on our sign," said Major Randy Kinnamon, the Clark County coordinator for Salvation Army.

"And then go to Google Pay or Apple Pay and then enter their credit card information securely."

The Salvation Army also takes online donations.

The red kettle campaign runs through Christmas Eve.
