BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) — Boulder City officials are asking state lawmakers to provide funding to expand the Nevada Southern Railroad Museum and build an urban park.
The Las Vegas Sun reports officials are seeking about $35 million for a visitors center, new boarding platforms, a linear park and links to a hiking trail system.
The museum operates a heritage railroad that takes passengers on half-hour rides on vintage trains that travel tracks laid for the construction of the Hoover Dam.
State Division of Museums and History administrator Peter Barton says the expansion is needed to accommodate the growing number of museum visitors.
He says the railroad had nearly 55,000 passengers last year, increasing from the 2,000 visitors recorded when it opened in 2001.
