LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A sense of patriotism inspires this local group of quilters to give back to ones who gave the most.

With every cut and every stitch these patriotic quilts honor those who have fought to protect our freedoms.

"Every single time we say thank you, we mean it," Louise Davenport said.

These women here in Las Vegas are part of a larger national organization called Quilts of Valor.

It’s mission: awarding handmade quilts to those servicemen and women who have been touched by war.

"To let them know we value them, that's our mission, that's why we do it," said davenport.

The group relies on donations and often times the volunteers have to dig into their own pockets to buy the materials to make their creations.

The quilts are meant to comfort and heal, a welcome home to those who sometimes never had one.

The Quilts of Valor have been recognized as one of our 13 Days and Knights of giving award recipients.

13 Days and Knights of Giving is sponsored by Vegas Golden Knights Foundation, Subaru of Las Vegas and America First Credit Union.
