A family in Sun City Summerlin is taking extra measures to protect their dog from coyotes!

Mary and George Monsam lost one of their dogs to a coyote attack last July. Now, they want to make sure their other dog remains safe!

The Monsam's invested in a coyote vest.

The vest comes in different colors and has spikes and whiskers on it.

You can also add a zapper on to the vest for an extra charge.

"It kind of looks like a Halloween costume but I don't care!" said Monsam. "I really don't care. It's good for her."

The Monsam's were only gone for an hour and 20 minutes last July when their Chihuahua went out the doggie door and into the backyard before she was attacked by a coyote.

The couple came home to find her dead in the rocks in the back yard.

"Really, until it happens to you, you are not really prepared, I wasn't prepared," said Monsam.

The Monsam's see coyotes regularly. They believe Sun City Summerlin has two separate packs of coyotes.

They are not the only ones who have lost a pet to a coyote either. Many of their neighbors have suffered the same tragedy.

Animal experts say don't try to remove the coyotes because new ones will move in. Just take the appropriate steps to protect your pets.
