During this pride month a Southern Nevada charity that helps the most vulnerable people in the gay and lesbian community is struggling to stay open.

While it has always been a safe space for the LGBT community, the Center now faces a period of financial insecurity. At the end of  2016  the Center was unable to secure a grant, so it started the year with a budget shortfall. That has meant staff reductions, cutting back hours of operation, and various programs to help young people and seniors.

Alison Yanez said she often goes to the Center to meet up with friends and use their computers.

"I just see it as at the forefront really, " said Yanez. "A beacon for everyone to come and congregate. I've been to many activities here.

Through donations and partnering with other organizations and local businesses; the center is trying to raise money through its PROUD2B campaign. The goal is $50,000.

Wade said the cost of failing to meet that goal is just too great.
