A bullet struck a victim in the shoulder during a shooting at Rumor Boutique Hotel Tuesday morning.

One suspect has been taken into custody, while a possible second suspect is still outstanding.

The victim was inside his car in the Rumor Boutique Hotel parking lot around 4:45 a.m. when a male suspect approached his vehicle. The suspect tried to rob the victim, but the victim had a firearm, and the two exchanged gunfire.

The victim, Neil Levine, tells 13 Action News he is a retired NYPD police officer, and now legally carries a weapon.

"I think if I didn't have my firearm, I would have been dead, because if I didn't shoot back, they would have killed me," says Levine.

After the shooting, the victim drove his vehicle into the valet area to get help.

Police chased down one suspect on foot in the parking lot near the Hard Rock hotel-casino. The suspect was taken into custody.

The victim has been released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
