LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two of the valley's busiest roads are getting an upgrade. Improvement projects have started along Eastern Avenue between Flamingo and Desert Inn, and along Maryland Parkway between Russell and Twain.

"It makes it more difficult," says UNLV student, Sophia Navarette. "It's worse for students who have to park and get to class and they're not getting there in time."

The major roadway construction project will be blocking lanes, sidewalks, and even some parking lots near UNLV for the next few months. The project will improve and repave sections of Maryland Parkway and Eastern Avenue. It will also improve sidewalks and add a traffic signal.

Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures on the southbound side of Maryland Parkway, between Flamingo and Cottage Grove, until late May. There will also be lane shifts on College Grove until late May.

Starting in April, there will be periodic lane closures and lane shifts on Maryland Parkway and on Eastern Avenue through August.

For UNLV students, most of the work will be done overnight to mitigate some of that traffic.

The project is expected to wrap up in September.
